.
More than ten years ago, I graduated and passed the Physician Licensure exams; I worked as Doctor-To-The-Barrios (DTTB) in a GIDA (Geographically Isolated Depressed Area) island municipality here in the Philippines for two years before going AWOL in the health and medical industry.
.
In pursuit of financial security and freedom, I went into the insurance and investments industry while pondering and finding the specialty in medicine that best suits me. After ten years, and becoming one of the best in the financial industry, with multiple awards and international recognitions to prove that (see MYFINANCEMD – https://www.facebook.com/myfinancemd and www.myfinancemd.com)
.
I finally came across a product that will change the trajectory of my life forever. Kangen Water, see more about this on: www.doctorsonkangen.com.
.
This healthy water altered a lot of things in my life. My body became healthier, and so did my friends and family. It made me wonder if healthy water can do that to my body, what can a healthy lifestyle, especially food, do to me.

โข Health care system runs on a fee-for-service model in which doctors get paid for the pills and procedures they prescribe and do.
.
โข Doctors are paid for treating diseases that already exist and not for preventing them.
.
โข Doctors, in general, are taught so much about how to be treating the symptoms of diseases through drugs and interventions but not so much about treating the root cause of the disease in the first place.
.
โข Medical schools offer too few hours on nutrition. As medical students, we were taught how to ask questions about medical history, including everything, but nothing is being asked about the patientโs diet or food the patient eats.
.
โข During my medical training and as a practicing physician, doctors are offered countless steaks and fancy perks by Big Pharma representatives.
.
โข In medical education, there was no mention of using diet to treat chronic disease, let alone reverse it (as I have come to learn by now).
.
These are facts that we all face, affecting not just doctors but also the community. That’s why I said, this will not be easy, but with determination, it can be done. I don’t blame my fellow doctors for this neither the community. This has been the practice and the system since the start and has only been passed by generations before us. I am just one who accidentally peeked through the blinders, sought the truth, and opened my eyes to this reality.
.
After ten years of hiatus in the medical field, I returned armed with my newly found knowledge in nutrition and lifestyle medicine. In combination with my passion for cooking (culinary medicine), ๐๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ง.

I have seen Preventive Medicine societies and groups worldwide. They have recognized the importance of Prevention in all other countries, but I have never seen one group or community on Prevention in the Philippines.
.
I know that Prevention probably should be one of the most critical fields in medicine, but we don’t have it here. Why?

.
1. People will only seek medical advice or treatment when they are already sick. They don’t think of going to a doctor when they feel healthy (or so they think). Probably because of lack of motivation and lack of money.
.
2. Doctors are not trained to treat asymptomatic persons (people without any disease symptoms).
.
3. It may not be financially rewarding since only a few people would think of their health when not feeling any pain.
.
4. People are so accustomed to going to a doctor’s clinic, getting a drug prescription, and paying the doctor’s services for those prescriptions. If, in any case, the doctor only advises the patient on what to eat or what to do, patients think they are not being treated and are hesitant on paying the doctor’s services and say, just a “mere” talk.
.
5. No pharmaceutical company would sponsor or give rewards to doctors when they could treat or reverse disease by eating broccoli and greens and doing exercise.
.
6. Doctors are not wired and educated on the power of food and hydration in treating most existing diseases.
.
Sadly, even though many people know that “Prevention is better than cure,” or “An apple a day keeps the doctors away,โ nobody does anything to prevent diseases.
.
Most deaths (about 70-80%) in the Philippines and the western world are preventable, and they are related to what we eat. Our diet is the number-one cause of premature death and the number-one cause of disability.
.
Undoubtedly, the diet must also be the number-one thing taught in medical schools, right?
.
Sadly, itโs not. According to the most recent national survey in the US, only 25% of medical schools offer a single course in nutrition, down from 37 percent thirty years ago.
.
I have no details of Philippine medical schools, but having graduated from one, I can vaguely remember an hour or less on a subject dedicated to nutrition. As you can see, that’s scary since Filipinos view doctors as credible sources of nutrition information, right?
.
While most of the public evidently considers doctors “very credible” sources of nutrition information, six out of seven (6/7) graduating doctors surveyed felt physicians were inadequately trained to counsel patients about their diets.

Educate Filipinos on the power of diet and lifestyle in preventing disease in the primordial stage of Prevention. There are five levels of Prevention:
.
PRIMARY PREVENTION: Preventing people at risk of developing a disease, for example, preventing people at risk for heart disease from suffering their first heart attack by prescribing statin drugs for high cholesterol.
.
SECONDARY PREVENTION: Preventing a disease from worsening. Secondary Prevention occurs when you already have the disease and try to prevent it from worsening, like having a second heart attack, by prescribing aspirin or other drugs to your regimen.
.
TERTIARY PREVENTION: This focus is on helping people manage long-term health problems. For example, they might prescribe a cardiac rehabilitation program to prevent further physical deterioration and pain.
.
QUARTERNARY PREVENTION: Reduce all the drugs and surgery complications from the first three levels.
.
PRIMORDIAL PREVENTION:
The World Health Organization first introduced this type of Prevention back in 1978.
.
Primordial Prevention was conceived as a strategy to prevent whole societies from experiencing epidemics of chronic disease risk factors.
.
It means preventing chronic disease and preventing the risk factors that lead to chronic illness. So, for example, instead of trying to prevent someone with high cholesterol from suffering a heart attack, why not help prevent them from getting high cholesterol (which leads to the heart attack) in the first place?
.
Primordial Prevention will be the primary focus of PREVENTIVE MEDICINE PH, but the same knowledge in this type of Prevention is also applicable to all levels of Prevention, namely:
.
โข Those people at risk to remove that risk,
โข Those who are already sick or in the advanced stages of the disease by, stopping the progression of the disease and even reverse it,
โข and Those suffering from complications from all the drugs and surgery that were done to heal and weaning from medications.
.
Preventive Medicine PH offers education, daily dose of evidence- based lastest on nutrition, recipes and healthy lifestyle specially designed for Filipinos. So to those of you who want to open your eyes, I invite you to stay tuned in. (website coming soon)

.
To all my colleagues in the medical field, let’s unite and take off the blinders that have been placed on our heads by the medical health care system. We agree that it’s our fault to have these blinders, but it will be our fault if we continue wearing them. So let’s join our hands in this cause.
